Mega Mewtwo X and Y: Team Building Tips and Battle Strategies

#1

In today’s guide, we’ll be diving into strategies for two fantastic Mega Mewtwo teams: one centered around Mega Mewtwo X and the other around Mega Mewtwo Y. Whether you're a competitive player or someone just looking to improve your gameplay, this article will provide valuable insights into how to build and use these powerful Pokemon effectively.

Team Composition: Key Allies and Roles

Both teams feature a similar backbone, utilizing Scizor and Garchomp. These two Pokemon form the foundation of both teams, providing excellent synergy with their high utility and versatility.

Scizor: The Ultimate Anti-Meta Pick

Scizor stands out as one of the best anti-meta picks in the current competitive scene. It excels against popular threats such as Mewtwo and Xerneas, both of which dominate the meta. Scizor’s Lunge and Bullet Punch allow it to counter Dark-types, such as Tyranitar, which are commonly seen in many teams.

Here’s a breakdown of Scizor's build:

Ability: Technician

Item: Life Orb

Moveset: Bullet Punch, Iron Head, Lunge, Swords Dance

The key to using Scizor effectively lies in maximizing its offensive power. Swords Dance boosts its attack, making Lunge or Bullet Punch a potent threat. With a Life Orb, Scizor can dish out massive damage, particularly to bulky foes like Xerneas and Mewtwo.

While Scizor does have some counters, such as Chandelure, it's still highly effective against most threats. Having two mobility moves, Lunge and Bullet Punch, ensures Scizor can get in close for the knockout. A well-timed Swords Dance can turn Scizor into an unstoppable force.

Garchomp: A Tanky Switch-In

Next up is Garchomp, serving as your defensive powerhouse. Equipped with a Yachi Berry, it can withstand powerful Ice-type attacks, such as Ice Beam, which are commonly seen in the meta. Here’s a quick look at Garchomp’s build:

Item: Yachi Berry

Moveset: Earthquake, Swords Dance, Dragon Claw, Fire Fang

Garchomp plays a defensive role in your team, especially when switching in to take Fire-type hits that Scizor might struggle with. Earthquake is a powerful offensive option, especially after a Swords Dance. The Yachi Berry ensures that Garchomp can safely take an Ice-type attack, which could otherwise be a huge threat.

Mega Mewtwo X: The Physical Beast

Mega Mewtwo X is an absolute powerhouse on the physical side of the spectrum. While its speed can be somewhat limiting, its raw attack makes it a formidable opponent when used properly. Here’s an optimal build for Mega Mewtwo X:

Nature: Adamant

Item: Mewtwoite X

Moveset: Stone Edge, Psycho Cut, Brick Break, Ice Punch

What sets Mega Mewtwo X apart is its diverse movepool. Stone Edge is a fantastic coverage move, allowing it to hit Flying- and Fire-types like Gyarados and Charizard. While the lack of range on some moves may require you to get in close, Psycho Cut provides a reliable stab move with a higher critical hit ratio.

Brick Break comes in handy for breaking through screens, which are common in the current meta. And Ice Punch helps deal with Dragon-types like Garchomp. Mega Mewtwo X can easily clean up the field when it’s in the right position.

Mega Mewtwo Y: The Special Attacker

While Mega Mewtwo X leans on physical power, Mega Mewtwo Y is a special attacker that benefits from its powerful moves like Psychic and Shadow Ball. Here’s a recommended build for Mewtwo Y:

Nature: Modest

Item: Mewtwoite Y

Moveset: Psystrike, Shadow Ball, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt

With its high special attack, Psystrike is a devastating move that takes full advantage of Mewtwo Y’s power. Shadow Ball is great for hitting Ghost-types, while Thunderbolt offers coverage against Water-types like Gyarados. Ice Beam is perfect for dealing with Dragon-types like Dragonite and Salamence.

Though Mewtwo Y may lack physical bulk, its incredible special offensive capabilities make it a significant threat. It’s easy to play, and its versatile movepool allows you to adapt to many different matchups.

Battle Strategy: How to Play These Teams

When building a team with both Mega Mewtwo X and Y, you’ll want to focus on synergy. Scizor and Garchomp can take out many threats, leaving Mega Mewtwo X or Y to finish off any remaining opponents. It’s important to recognize when to switch between your attackers based on the situation.

Using Mega Mewtwo X and Y Together

While both Mega Mewtwo forms have distinct strengths, they complement each other well. Mega Mewtwo Y excels in special attacks, while Mega Mewtwo X shines in physical combat. Depending on the matchup, you can either play aggressively with Mega Mewtwo X or maintain control with Mega Mewtwo Y's powerful special attacks.

Dealing with Common Threats

Scizor vs. Chandelure: If you’re up against a Chandelure, you may want to switch to Garchomp or Mewtwo X to handle it. Scizor’s Bullet Punch isn’t going to be effective against it.

Garchomp vs. Ice-types: While Garchomp is a tank, always keep in mind the presence of Ice-type moves. Having the Yachi Berry equipped is crucial to surviving such hits.

Mewtwo X and Y vs. Other Mewtwos: A showdown between Mewtwos can often come down to which one has the right moveset. Use Stone Edge on Mewtwo X for a huge advantage against Mewtwo Y.

Both Mega Mewtwo X and Y are incredibly strong Pokemon that can perform different roles within a team. Scizor and Garchomp further bolster their effectiveness by covering weaknesses and dealing with common threats. The synergy between these Pokemon makes them a fearsome combo in any battle.

If you’re looking to enhance your competitive edge, consider adding these Pokemon to your team. Whether you decide to buy shiny Pokemon or build your own from scratch, these strategies will help you take your gameplay to the next level.
