Valuable Currency Items

Chromatic Orbs, which allow players to reroll socket colors on gear, are also extremely useful early on, especially for off-color gem setups. Orbs of Alchemy and Chaos Orbs should always be kept, as they retain long-term value and are essential for both gear upgrades and trading with other players. Many players make the mistake of using Chaos Orbs on random rare items too early, so storing them is often the smarter play.

Low-Level Unique Items

There are a handful of low-level unique items that offer huge power spikes early in the game. Items like Wanderlust, Goldrim, Lifesprig, and Tabula Rasa are excellent for leveling and can drastically improve survivability or damage output. These items are also commonly traded early in a league and often rise in price during the first few days. Even if you find a duplicate or one that does not fit your build, keeping them in your stash can help with future characters or be used for flipping currency on the trade market. U4GM recommends holding onto leveling uniques unless you're in urgent need of space or currency.

Sockets and Links Matter

Early-game players often focus too much on item rarity and not enough on socket configuration. A well-rolled white or magic item with the right number of linked sockets can outperform a poorly linked rare. Items with three or four links in the correct color combination for your skill gems should always be kept, even if their base stats are not perfect. If you find an item with four links early in the campaign, especially with a favorable socket color arrangement, stash it immediately. It can be a game-changer, particularly for single-target or AoE-focused builds.

Quality Gems and Skill Drops

Gem management is another overlooked aspect of early-game inventory. Gems with quality, even if not immediately usable, should always be stored. Quality improves gem effectiveness and adds long-term value, especially for movement or support gems. Certain skill gems like Flame Dash, Frostblink, or Steelskin are used across multiple builds, making them worth keeping for alternate characters or for sale. U4GM emphasizes the benefit of organizing a gem stash early in a league, which improves overall preparedness for both build development and market interaction.

Crafting Bases and Influence Items


Although rare, influenced items and solid crafting bases can drop as early as act four or five. Bases like Hubris Circlets, Sorcerer Boots, or Spine Bows with good socket rolls are worth holding onto for later use. Even magic items with strong base types can be modified later using crafting benches or currency, making them valuable long-term assets. Players who aim to craft their own gear later in the game should start identifying valuable bases early. These bases can also be sold to players looking to craft their build-defining items, allowing you to capitalize on demand.
